This is the point where I would truly love to show you this internal newsletter I made for LeapFrog. It was right around September 19th, International "Talk Like a Pirate Day". Google it if you are unfamiliar or read the wiki entry. I had this great image with a pirate hat and patch drawn over a picture of me. It was actually meant to be a test for the internal newsletter, but the boss liked it so much that he wanted it sent out as the actual newsletter. Unfortunately, I was not brilliant enough to save it for a portfolio piece. Instead, I submit the following example of some creative work. I know you are disappointed by the lack of piracy.

What follows is a poem written back during college and occasionally taken out by myself for review and reflection. In retrospect, it comes across with a lot of angst, but, given when it was written, it should. It was created during a difficult time when I was feeling particularly separated from everything I had known and continually hurt by someone unintentionally as they struggled through a rough time of their own.

I remember the feelings when writing my thoughts out. It was a great catharsis. Ultimately, jotting these feelings down helped me realize a new sense of independence and self-reliance I had not known before. The beauty and power of writing is incredible. I wonder if these words will capture a feeling, a moment, to which you can relate to as well. It is, I think, the primary role of the copywriter to find those words to which others can connect.

You cannot follow here

You cannot follow here
Your looks of spite
Your angry words
Your cruel actions
They chip away
At me continually
At my exterior
But in here
In my mind
You are powerless
For in here
In my mind
All the good
That is me
Will remain unchanged
Forever I will be
A giver
A friend
A dreamer
You cannot follow here
